A Prayer for America

National Day of Prayer, 2021

From Rick Green, Founder – Patriot Academy

In the words of Abraham Lincoln, we devoutly recognize you, Almighty God, as the supreme authority in all the affairs of men and nations.

We are, admittedly, a proud people, and as Lincoln said in his 1863 National Day of Prayer Proclamation, we have been “intoxicated with unbroken success, becoming too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.”

Over the last year, our Nation and the world has experienced pain and death from Covid; and even more pain, separation, isolation, death and loss of liberty to the unprecedented overreaction of government trying to play god, and failing to be good servants of the people.

We now find our nation gripped by fear, easily led into bondage by our worship of the false gods of government and pseudo-science. Professing ourselves to be wise, we have become the fools warned about in Romans 1:22.

But the Holy Scriptures tell us that “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty.” (2 Cor 3:17) So, we humbly implore that you forgive us of our sins, forgive us for not seeking justice, for rewarding wickedness and punishing the righteous, for ignoring the laws of nature and of nature’s God, and for selfishly adopting policies that harmed so many, left so many alone and isolated, and plunged so many of our people back into addictions and abuse, while sowing fear into our people.

Your Word tells us not to fear, not to be dismayed, but instead to be strong and of a good courage. You give us not a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. Please Lord, break the bondage of fear in our nation, restore in us a sound mind, critical thinking, logical and sound reasoning. Let us seek truth in all things and then have the courage to speak and fight for that truth.

We thank you for the many places in America where we see the spirit of fear lifting as the virus continues to have less and less of an impact on the health of our communities, and as liberty is being restored in more and more areas of the Nation.

We thank you for your mercies that endure forever.

We know a people that forgets God and acts against your commands deserves judgment, but we humbly implore your mercy and ask that you restore America to once again be One Nation Under God and once again be a city on a hill and a beacon of hope to people all over the world.

As we ask for you to Bless America, we also ask for the courage to once again be a Nation that blesses God. Open our eyes to discern good from evil and give us the courage to do good, to seek justice, to defend the oppressed, and take up the cause of the defenseless.

And once again in the words of Lincoln, “all this being done in sincerity and truth, let us then rest humbly in the hope, authorized by the Divine teachings, that the united cry of the Nation will be heard on high and answered with blessings, no less than the pardon of our national sins, and restoration of our now divided and suffering country to its former happy condition of unity and peace.”
