Who Cares?

And the media wonders why no one takes them seriously anymore.

Rachel Maddow’s over-hyped attempt to finally expose the evil-ness of Trump fell flat on its face. It left many people wondering, “Why do I even watch this anymore?” The main reason for watching now seems to be kicks and giggles.

Ever since Trump announced his candidacy, the mainstream, liberal media has demonstrated over and over its utter inability to handle the essence that is Trump. Their normal formulas for demolishing “Republican” politicians didn’t work and they were left scrambling to sound relevant. And they are still scrambling.

The question that the media needs to ask itself is – what do the American people care about?

With a population of over 300 million, it’s impossible to say definitively what all of America cares about. However, the election of Donald Trump gives us a good indication of what a large portion of America does, and does not care about. At this time, right or wrong, the majority of America doesn’t care about how much or whether their president paid taxes, they don’t care about his lack of political experience, they don’t even appear care about the morality of their candidate. And if they do care, those cares are outweighed by other cares.

What the majority of America cares about, as evidenced by the last election, is security of their country, real, tangible tax relief, they care about whether or not their president loves this country, they care about taking care of veterans, they care about their country being strong and sound for the next generation.

These things were all made clear by the last election. However, just because these things may be true, doesn’t make all of them necessarily right. For one thing, the morality of a candidate should be of great concern to every voter.

John Jay said: “Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian Nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”

Samuel Adams said: “He therefore is the truest friend to the liberty of this country who tries most to promote its virtue, and who, so far as his power and influence extend, will not suffer a man to be chosen into any office of power and trust who is not a wise and virtuous man….The sum of all is, if we would most truly enjoy this gift of Heaven, let us become a virtuous people.”

Trump, as a candidate and a president, has a lot of serious flaws. Flaws that the mainstream media, generally speaking, has not addressed.

Now, speculating on the past is always a risky business. However, everything that is happening and continues to happen makes one wonder – if Trump’s real flaws had received as much attention as his mysterious tax returns, would the outcome of the 2016 election have been different?

Regardless, what has happened has happened. Donald Trump is the president of the United States and it is up to each of us to make the best of the next 4 years. There are certain things that Americans need to start caring about and it is up to each of us to make that change starting in our own lives.
